Choice C: So far, is this a novel about race? Class? Gender? Coming of Age? Place? Select and defend your answer.
I believe that this novel is sometimes about racism. I believe that because in some cases, the whites in Maycomb talk harmful towards negros. The always say things like, "We go our way, they go theirs." This is saying that they don't want to be around them.
I believe that in the Tom Robinson case, that they are being even more hurtful towards negros. They are expressing themselves to Atticus. Mr. Ewell even spat on his face. Ever since Atticus represented Tom on the case, they have started to not like him even more.
To summerize this, I believe that the book is meant to explain how much Negros and Whites aren't very much different.

To Kill A Mockingbird - Journal #6
Prompt:
C. How do you think the story (what you read so far) would have changed if Scout and Jem had a mother present in their lives? Would it change for the better or for the worse? Explain your thoughts.
For the prompt, I chose C. I believe that if Scout and Jem would've had a mother figure in their life, that the story wouldn't have changed so much. I believe that Scout and Jem wouldn't leave the house so much to spy on Atticus because their mother would've told them not to leave. I think that Scout might even act more feminine with a mother figure to help her with things. She wouldn't play with boys all the time, and more with girls.
Jem, on the other hand, is more like his father. He probably wouldn't be so much different. A mother would just make him have someone else around in the house. He'd probably try to spy on people and still visit the Radley House. Maybe if Atticus was younger, they would spend more time together as a family.
Altogether, I believe that their lives would only make a small impact on the story. They wouldn't act very much different. They would just have another female is their house besides Calpurnia. They would maybe go out more often. They might even travel more, but nothing significant in which the story would change.

Chapters 13, 14, & 15
Perspective: Atticus
So Alexandra finally comes and shows up to visit. She'll be here for a while. That could mean for a long time up here in Maycomb. When she first came, she was a pain in the butt. She told Scout that she came to be her woman figure in her life, like that she hadn't acquired that Calpurnia was a female in Scouts life. She was trying to be pensive, but she wasn't. She also tried to get her fired. She's on the racist side of the Finch family. She also tried to get her fired. She's on the racist side of the Finch family. She is antagonizing us. In other information, A group of people crowded around me when I was sitting in frount of the jailhouse, to guard Tom Robinson. Tom was a ecclesiastical kind of person. The group tried to extract me from guarding the jail in order to kill or beat up Tom Robinson. When Scout, Jem, and Dill came out, it was even worse. Scout finally started to talk to Mr. Walter Cunningham and then he called off the group. The trial is tomorrow and Tom thanked me for helping him keep same in jail.

Chapters 10, 11, & 12
Perspective: Scout
I could'nt believe what I saw Atticus do. Jem was acquainting me. He shot a gun perfectly! He was called "One-shot Finch". It was unbelievable. I wish I could've asked him why he didn't tell us about his gift, but Jem said if he didn't tell us, it was better off that we didn't tell him that we knew. Mrs. Dubose finally died. At least she wasn't suffering anymore. But what she said to Atticus was something I could never forget. It was a debating argument though. But at least I had enough perplexity to isolate the horrible words. Atticus told Jem and me that she was a morphine addict. She had been for years since her doctor subscribed it to her. When Atticus was gone during the depression, Calpurnia took us to her church, a "negro church". She talked soo different there then around us. Most of them don't even know how to read.

To Kill A Mockingbird - Journal 1:
Chapters 1-3
Perspective of Miss Caroline
I can't believe about some of these kids! They are filthy and rude. Some are nice, but others are tattletales and telling us the others life stories. I feel like Walter Cunningham should tell us when he doesn't have lunch. We would give him money so he could go buy some. And Burris Ewell, he is a complete jerk. Little Chuck Little claims that he only comes for the first day of school every year. Burris claims that is the government thinks that he is smart, he could go on to the second grade finally. I told him to leave or I would have to tell the principal on him. I feel that Scout and Little Chuck Little shouldn't have told the whole class about their fellow classmates. They should have just let me handle my job and do it myself.

Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix3/4
19. What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?
Something that upsets me in this portion of the book was that Jimi was a major drug addict and wrote in his diary that he couldn't find marijuana in the neighborhoods he went on tour in. It upsets me because before he went to England, he was a quiet boy who was sad over his moms death. His friends were suprised when he came to visit that he asked it they wanted to try LSD together.
4. What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?
The members of the Jimi Hendrix Experience were the second most important people in book because they were in the band and they were with Jimi in the most important part of his short tragic life. They didn't know each other when they started a band, but they stuck together ever since and became best friends.

Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix 1/2
What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
In this section that I read, I feel that Jimi should not have done marijuana, speed, or LSD. He said that he would listen to Bob Dylan and get stoned off of LSD just to get a thrill. He should not have done this because drugs were, and still are, bad for everyone. They can kill you or make you very ill. He died of drugs. If he did not do drugs, he might still be making great music today.
What has surprised you in the book? Why?
Something that surprised me was that Jimi was in the Army. He was in the 101st Airborne. It surprised me because I would never guess that a famous guitarist would have started in an Army. Eventually, he made himself get disscharged my saying that he was having homosexual feelings for his fellow crew members. He was also taking drugs. Right after he left, he came back so he could have a place to stay.

Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix 1/4
Something that I wonder about in this is how Jimi Hendrix survived his childhood. He was raised under the care of his abusive father, Al. His mother, Lucille and him divorced. She died a couple of years later. They had his brother Leon on and off. 3 of their children were put up for adoption.
What suprised was that the worlds best guitarist was very poor. He couldn't afford things that were $1. He lived in several houses, including boarding. He lived his first 3 years of life with his mom and other women. Al was in World War 2 at the time. He never had a permanent schol or home.

Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix
The book that I chose for the Free Choice project is Room Full of Mirrors: A Biography of Jimi Hendrix. It is a biography on the life of Jimi Hendrix. It was written on the 35th anniversary of his death. It covers his childhood, through the struggles of his music career. I chose it because he is one of my many idols. I also chose it because I want to learn more about his life and how he became famous. I play guitar so it will be a learning experience.
