To Kill A Mockingbird - Journal #6

Prompt:
C. How do you think the story (what you read so far) would have changed if Scout and Jem had a mother present in their lives? Would it change for the better or for the worse? Explain your thoughts.

For the prompt, I chose C. I believe that if Scout and Jem would've had a mother figure in their life, that the story wouldn't have changed so much. I believe that Scout and Jem wouldn't leave the house so much to spy on Atticus because their mother would've told them not to leave. I think that Scout might even act more feminine with a mother figure to help her with things. She wouldn't play with boys all the time, and more with girls.

Jem, on the other hand, is more like his father. He probably wouldn't be so much different. A mother would just make him have someone else around in the house. He'd probably try to spy on people and still visit the Radley House. Maybe if Atticus was younger, they would spend more time together as a family.

Altogether, I believe that their lives would only make a small impact on the story. They wouldn't act very much different. They would just have another female is their house besides Calpurnia. They would maybe go out more often. They might even travel more, but nothing significant in which the story would change.
