Journal #4

Journal #4
Chapters 10, 11, & 12
Perspective: Scout

I could'nt believe what I saw Atticus do. Jem was acquainting me. He shot a gun perfectly! He was called "One-shot Finch". It was unbelievable. I wish I could've asked him why he didn't tell us about his gift, but Jem said if he didn't tell us, it was better off that we didn't tell him that we knew. Mrs. Dubose finally died. At least she wasn't suffering anymore. But what she said to Atticus was something I could never forget. It was a debating argument though. But at least I had enough perplexity to isolate the horrible words. Atticus told Jem and me that she was a morphine addict. She had been for years since her doctor subscribed it to her. When Atticus was gone during the depression, Calpurnia took us to her church, a "negro church". She talked soo different there then around us. Most of them don't even know how to read.

  1. Talk more about the situation when Atticus is forced to fire the rifle. Talk about what Mrs. Dubose made Jem do and then what she gave him. Good detail pointing out that Calpurnia talks different around other blacks. Important detail about Jem telling Scout that Atticus would have told them about his skill with a rifle if he'd wanted them to know.
